Inked Magazine's Cover girl contest

By Rick Clement

Inked magazine’s next cover girl could be a Winnipeg woman with muscular dystrophy.

Crystal Rondeau has made it through the first round of voting beating out 38 others. She is currently in first place in the second round.

Rondeau has been modelling for five years and hopes her work breaks barriers for other women with disabilities.

Rondeau has 11 tattoos, but she says her favourite is her medical cannabis tattoo on her forearm.
Kay Stewart gets ready to tattoo at Brass and Bones in Winnipeg.
That tattoo was done by Winnipeg artist Kay Stewart.

Stewart says that it was a challenge tattooing someone who cannot leave their chair.

She says tattoo shops are not always built with those with limited mobility in mind.

Stewart now works out of Brass and Bones. The shop is open concept which makes it much more accessible. Stewart hopes to do touch-ups on Rondeau’s tattoo there.

If Rondeau makes it to the cover this will be the first time Stewart has had her work featured in a major publication.
